Air China Boeing Damaged in JFK Refuelling Incident
An Air China Boeing 747-8 was damaged during refuelling at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on August 31, 2026. The incident occurred while Flight CA982 from New York to Beijing Capital International Airport was preparing for departure.
The fuel truck moved away before the hoses were disconnected, pulling them out of the wing-mounted fuel ports and causing damage. Fuel also spilled onto the airport apron.
Air China confirmed the incident on September 2, stating that the refuelling truck's abnormal movement damaged 'relevant aircraft components' and prevented Flight CA982 from operating as scheduled.
The airline activated a contingency plan to assist affected passengers and another aircraft was used for the route.
