Alker Edges Past Taylor at Boeing Classic
New Zealand's Steven Alker is leading the Boeing Classic in Snoqualmie, Wash. after shooting a 4-under-par 68 on Saturday.
Alker, a 55-year-old with 11 Champions Tour wins under his belt, made an early move with two birdies over his first three holes.
He finished strong with four birdies in his final eight holes to wrap up the round at 9-under 135 for the tournament. This is his second straight round at 68 or better, having shot a 67 on Friday.
The Champions Tour veteran acknowledged that a death in his family, his wife's mother, had been affecting him lately, but he seems to be finding his footing now: 'My wife has been supporting me for 20 years and it's time to support her,' he said. 'Everybody's got stuff going on off the golf course, there's always, but when you're dealing with death, it's a little bit different just to be in the right place mentally. So, starting to get there.'
