Alphabet Falls Short of Overtaking Nvidia as World's Largest Company
Nvidia currently holds the top spot as the world's largest company, with a market cap of around $5.4 trillion. Alphabet, valued at approximately $4 trillion, is in third place and has been making strides to close the gap. However, it may not be enough for Alphabet to overtake Nvidia by 2027.
Alphabet has turned its fortunes around in the AI race, with several successful product launches and a significant improvement in its Gemini model. The company's cloud computing platform, Google Cloud, saw an impressive 82% growth during the second quarter, outpacing its competitors. With Alphabet spending $200 billion on data center capital expenditures in 2026, there is more computing capacity slated to come online that could boost Google Cloud's growth rate over the next few years.
Nvidia, on the other hand, is expected to continue growing rapidly, with a projected 70% growth rate next year. This would take Alphabet three years to deliver and put Nvidia well ahead in terms of market value. Additionally, both companies trade at similar valuation levels, making it challenging for Alphabet to catch up.
