Alphabet on Track to Hit $5 Trillion Valuation by 2028
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is on track to hit a $5 trillion market valuation before the end of 2028, according to a recent prediction. The forecast is driven by the company's strong profit growth, with operating income rising 30% year over year in the first two quarters of 2026. This growth rate is nearly double the 15% increase seen in 2025, which suggests Alphabet is well-positioned to meet the target.
The key drivers of this growth include a surge in Google Cloud revenue, which jumped 82% to $24.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026. The cloud segment's operating margin also improved significantly, contributing to a substantial portion of Alphabet's overall operating income. Additionally, Alphabet's AI initiatives, such as the delivery of TPU systems to customer data centers, are expected to boost revenues in 2027.
However, depreciation expenses pose a risk to this optimistic outlook. Alphabet's depreciation costs rose 42% year over year in the second quarter, outpacing the growth in operating income. The company's capital spending is also projected to increase significantly in 2027, which could impact profit growth if depreciation continues to rise at a faster rate.
Despite these risks, the prediction remains plausible, as the required profit growth is about half of what Alphabet is currently achieving. If the company maintains its current trajectory, it could reach the $5 trillion mark before 2028, making it the second company after Nvidia to achieve this milestone.
