Altman to Address UN on AI Safety Concerns
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will brief the United Nations Security Council next week about AI risks, as concerns over the technology's safety escalate. The meeting is being organized by France, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the 15-member Security Council.
The event comes as major players in the industry have called for a slowdown in AI development due to safety concerns. This includes OpenAI itself, with CEO Sam Altman lending his support to the idea alongside Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has also weighed in on the issue, calling for coordinated international action to address AI risks. He emphasized that 'national action is essential, but global coordination is also indispensable.'
