Amazon Among Retailers Hit with Cease-and-Desist Letters Over Prohibited E-Bikes

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has sent cease-and-desist letters to 40 major retailers, including Amazon and Target, over the sale of prohibited motorized scooters and e-bikes.

The letters were sent in response to a fatal accident involving an e-bike in Lower Manhattan last week. The vehicle involved was capable of reaching speeds over 30 miles per hour, exceeding the city's speed limit for e-bikes.

Amazon has responded to the letter, stating that it will 'look into the products in question' and work with the mayor and City Council to ensure compliance with safety standards. However, Target has yet to comment on the matter.
