Amazon Blocks Meta's AI Agent Muse from Shopping Amid Transparency Concerns

Meta's AI agent Muse is facing issues on Amazon after the e-commerce giant blocked its access to shopping. According to GeekWire, users attempting to use Muse to buy products from Amazon receive a warning that doing so violates Amazon's terms of use.

Muse, which was introduced by Meta earlier this month, bills itself as a digital assistant capable of performing tasks such as shopping. The AI can even pay for purchases using Link by Stripe and has plans to add Shop Pay as an alternate payment method.

However, Amazon's Conditions of Use state that autonomous agents like Muse are barred from using its services unless they meet specific transparency requirements, including identifying themselves as a specific agent and not imitating or disguising themselves as humans. Meta did not inform Amazon that Muse would access its storefront, and therefore received no authorization to do so.

Amazon is currently beta testing its own AI shopping agent Buy for Me, which can purchase products on users' behalf on its own platform as well as from third-party vendors.
