Amazon Blocks Meta's Muse Agent Amid Agentic Commerce Showdown
ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood has signaled her firm's backing of analyst Nick Grous's assessment that Amazon's block on Meta's Muse agent is a 'great test' for customer loyalty and the future of agentic commerce. Wood responded with a simple but pointed 'Indeed' to Grous's analysis on X.
Grous argued that Amazon is deliberately blocking Muse to shield its advertising business, which he described as 'extremely profitable' at $70 billion. He noted that Amazon's advertising unit generated $19.8 billion in revenue during the second quarter of 2026, a 26% increase year over year.
The standoff between Amazon and Meta highlights the fundamental threat agents like Muse pose to ad-dependent platforms. Grous explained that 'If it's agents that are crawling your site, then the ads are meaningless.'
Amazon has stated that it blocked Muse because the agent failed to properly identify itself while browsing and raised concerns about customer credentials and data security.
