Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport
An Amazon cargo plane overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, striking two vehicles and killing five people. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed that the fatalities were individuals in the vehicles hit by the plane, not passengers aboard the aircraft.
Grace Mercado, a witness to the crash, described the terrifying scene as she and her fiancé were driving near the airport. 'The black smoke everywhere, looking at it, it's crazy, honestly,' Mercado said.
The NTSB reported that seven people were inside the plane at the time of the crash. The aircraft struck a 2012 white Ford Econoline van and a Toyota driving along Northwest 67th Avenue. Mercado credited a red traffic light for saving her life, saying 'it's crazy how things align. If it wasn’t for that delay, because it was a small delay, that could have been us; that could have been me.'
