Amazon Considers $8 Billion Chip Transfer Through Special Purpose Vehicle

Amazon is exploring an innovative solution to manage its massive investment in Nvidia chips. The e-commerce giant is reportedly considering putting $8 billion worth of cutting-edge Nvidia gear into a special-purpose vehicle, or SPV, with external investors.

The proposed structure would cover thousands of Grace Blackwell chips across more than a dozen U.S. data centers. This move would allow Amazon to transfer the cost and risk of these high-cost components to outside investors, potentially providing a more asset-light way to continue increasing processing capacity.

According to reports, the vehicle might offer investors a 10% stock holding and issue loans. While this arrangement could provide Amazon with much-needed funding for its AI infrastructure, it's unclear whether the company will ultimately pursue this option.
