Amazon Deal Could Reshape Qualcomm's Investment Narrative
Qualcomm has announced a multi-generational collaboration with Amazon to supply custom AI inference chips and high-speed optical connectivity for AWS data centers. The deal includes a warrant that gives Amazon the right to buy up to 25 million Qualcomm shares, tied to as much as US$60 billion of potential purchases.
The agreement deepens Qualcomm's push beyond smartphones into data center infrastructure and links long-term chip demand directly to Amazon's AI build-out while aligning both companies through an equity incentive structure. The focus now turns to how Qualcomm's long-horizon AWS silicon deal could reshape its investment narrative around diversification and execution risk.
Qualcomm's current analyst script points to revenue reaching US$60.5 billion and earnings of US$11.5 billion by 2029, based on 11.1% yearly top-line expansion and an earnings increase of about US$2.2 billion from US$9.3 billion today.
Some analysts view the Amazon deal as early validation for Qualcomm's AI story, while others will wait to see if those ambitious targets hold up. A key concern is that large AI and data center commitments now increase the cost of missteps in design, supply, and customer delivery.
