Amazon Drone Program Sparks Backlash in Texas Neighborhood

A growing number of residents in Richardson, Texas, are protesting Amazon's drone delivery program, Prime Air. The program uses autonomous hexacopter drones to fly items from fulfillment sites directly to residential drop zones in under 30 minutes.

Residents claim the constant noise and disruption caused by the drones is ruining their quality of life. According to resident Stephanie Puri, there were 52 drone passes over her home on what she described as a 'slow day'.

Amazon defends Prime Air as a success, citing overwhelmingly positive customer feedback. However, less than 1% of inquiries regarding the program this year have related to noise, which Amazon claims is minimal and short-lived.

The clash in Richardson highlights the rapidly escalating 'drone arms race' across North Texas, where several companies are actively testing and scaling suburban drop-offs. Municipal governments have virtually no authority to regulate the skies above their neighborhoods due to Federal Aviation Administration jurisdiction over national airspace.
