Amazon's drone delivery service is expanding to nearly 500 cities and towns by the end of the year. The online retail giant currently offers this service in fewer than 100 locations, but its goal is to make it available to a much wider audience.

To qualify for drone delivery, items must weigh 5 pounds or less and fit inside a large shoebox. Amazon says that more than 60% of customer orders fall into this category, making it a convenient option for many customers.

Prime members will be able to access the service for free on orders of $50 or more, while non-Prime members will pay $4.99 and those under Prime can pay $2.99 for delivery.
