Amazon Expands Refund Process for FTC Settlement
Amazon is expanding its refund process for customers affected by a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) settlement. The settlement was reached in September of last year, and it stems from allegations that Amazon tricked customers into signing up for $139 Prime memberships.
The original reimbursement process had two phases: automatic payments to those who signed up between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, and used their Prime benefits no more than three times in a year, and a claims process for those who tried to cancel during that time period.
Since less than $1 billion of the allocated refunds have been issued, Amazon is now broadening its eligibility criteria to include customers who used their Prime benefits up to four times in a year. The company will continue to expand this pool until the terms of the settlement are met.
