Amazon Explores Drone Delivery Expansion to Portland

Amazon is exploring the possibility of expanding its drone delivery service to Portland. The company's Prime Air program, which currently operates in 10 U.S. metropolitan areas and one location in England, aims to deliver packages in as little as 30 minutes.

According to Amazon spokesperson Farah Jad, 'We are always exploring new ways to get customers a wider selection at faster speeds.' The company is working with local officials to determine the feasibility of bringing Prime Air to Portland and surrounding areas.

Each drone delivery site serves an area of approximately 175 square miles, and the service is designed for relatively small packages weighing 5 pounds or less. Deliveries can arrive in as little as 30 minutes, although most orders currently take about an hour after checkout.

The company plans to reach nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns with Prime Air by the end of 2026, which is roughly six times its current footprint. Amazon has also begun expanding beyond the United States, recently launching Prime Air in Darlington, England.
