Amazon Faces Regulatory Scrutiny in New York City Delivery Bill

Senator Bernie Sanders has thrown his support behind New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's Delivery Protection Act, which targets Amazon's delivery service model. The bill aims to license last-mile delivery facilities and hold Amazon accountable for its subcontractor network.

The proposed legislation specifically targets Amazon's structure involving Delivery Service Partners (DSPs), independent businesses that employ drivers to deliver Amazon packages. This arrangement creates a layer between Amazon and the workers, shielding the company from direct accountability under current regulations.

Amazon opposes the bill, claiming it risks 5,000 jobs and disrupts local partnerships. The company has invited City Council members to visit its delivery stations and meet with contractors before voting on the bill.
