Amazon India Quick Commerce Hits $1B in Sales Amid Global Growth
Amazon's India quick-commerce arm has reached $1 billion in annualized gross sales over three months, making it the fastest-scaling e-commerce unit in its history. The service has doubled orders every quarter since launch and now reaches around 700,000 daily order volumes. Amazon targets 100 cities by Diwali and 1,000 dark stores by year-end as part of a plan to cover 300 cities nationally.
The momentum is reflected globally, with the company's worldwide net sales rising 20% year-over-year in Q2 2026. The International segment, which includes India, saw a 15% increase in net sales and $1.7 billion in operating income. Amazon has been testing a Hindi-language version of its AI assistant, Alexa+, among Indian users.
However, building hundreds of dark stores is capital-intensive, and Amazon entered the market after rivals such as Blinkit, Instamart, and Zepto had already established scale. Whether this momentum holds depends on order frequency and average order value as the network expands into smaller towns with thinner margins.
