Amazon Ordered to Pay Up to $1.5 Billion in Redress to Consumers
Amazon has been ordered to pay up to $1.5 billion in redress to consumers harmed by its deceptive Prime enrollment practices, in addition to a $1 billion civil penalty.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reached a historic settlement with Amazon in September 2025, requiring the company to issue refund payments to affected customers.
As of September 2026, Amazon has already issued more than $845 million in redress payments.
The eligibility requirement for these refunds is expanding beyond low-use subscribers to include millions who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits over a one-year period.
Citing the revised order, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection Christopher Mufarrige said 'The revised order will ensure more consumers who were harmed by Amazon’s deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices benefit from the FTC’s historic settlement.'
New payments will roll out automatically via PayPal, Venmo or mailed check starting October 1, 2026.
