Coinbase Seeks CFTC Approval for US Stock Perpetual Futures

Coinbase has filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to list US single-stock perpetual futures, including contracts for Apple and Tesla.

The filing is part of a two-regulator process, following an SEC notice registration on September 1. This would make Coinbase the first company to offer these types of contracts in the US.

Perpetual futures are a type of derivative that allows traders to hold leveraged long or short positions indefinitely, with periodic funding payments keeping the contract price tied to the underlying asset. The structure has been built offshore on crypto rails and US traders have largely been locked out.
