Amazon Owes Millions $200 Refunds After FTC Settlement
Amazon has been ordered by the Federal Trade Commission to send refunds of up to $200 to customers who were unknowingly enrolled in Prime subscriptions they did not sign up for.
The settlement, which was reached last year, addresses claims that Amazon enrolled millions of Prime subscribers in additional subscriptions without their knowledge or consent and knowingly made it difficult for them to cancel.
The revised order will ensure more consumers who were harmed by Amazon's deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices benefit from the FTC's historic settlement, said Christopher Mufarrige, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection.
According to the FTC, you are eligible for an Amazon refund if you are an Amazon Prime customer in the United States, signed up for a Prime subscription through a 'challenged enrollment flow' or tried to cancel but were unable to do so between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025, and used no more than 20 Amazon Prime Benefits in any 12-month period following Amazon Prime enrollment.
