Amazon Pilot Warns of Excessive Speed in Fatal Miami Crash Amid FTC Advertising Lawsuit
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation into the fatal Miami plane crash has revealed that the Amazon pilot warned about excessive speed before the accident.
However, this news comes amidst a separate issue for Amazon. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against the e-commerce giant, alleging it manipulated advertising auctions to extract over $20 billion from more than 1.2 million advertisers through 'soft reserve prices' introduced in 2019.
The FTC claims that Amazon misrepresented its pricing system for Sponsored Products and used hidden mechanisms to push prices higher. In contrast, Amazon argues that the case mischaracterizes its advertising business, citing a 50% drop in average winning bids and a 24% rise in conversion rates as evidence of efficiency gains.
The regulatory dispute has led to a decline in Amazon's stock price, with shares trading down 1.80% at $255.09 on Tuesday. The company's shares remain 6.6% above their 200-day average but have slipped about 3.8% under their 20-day average.
