Amazon Pledges $3 Billion to Constellation Nuclear Plant Expansion
Constellation Energy Corporation and Amazon.com Inc have signed a long-term agreement to support the expansion of the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Maryland. The 20-year deal includes 690 megawatts of power and will enable more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment at the nuclear facility.
The expansion is expected to increase the plant's total capacity beyond its current 1,790 megawatts. Amazon's commitment will also provide revenue certainty for Constellation to relicense the plant for another 20 years.
Kerry Person, vice president of AWS Global Operations and Data Center Delivery, said that the agreement 'sustains the continued operation and expansion of Maryland's largest source of carbon-free energy, supports hundreds of jobs, and brings significant new generation to the regional grid.'
