Amazon Prime customers who were tricked into enrolling in its subscription service will start receiving payments from the company's $2.5 billion settlement on Thursday.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced a lawsuit against Amazon in 2023, claiming that the e-commerce company used 'manipulative, coercive, or deceptive user-interface designs' to trick consumers into enrolling in Prime.

Amazon agreed to pay a $1 billion civil penalty and distribute the remaining $1.5 billion among eligible customers as part of the settlement.

The payments will be made via electronic payment methods such as Venmo or PayPal, or with a mailed check.
