Amazon Seeks to Expand Drone Deliveries in Darlington

Retail giant Amazon has taken another step towards expanding its drone delivery service in the UK. After trialling the technology in Darlington, County Durham, for over six months, the company has submitted an application to cover the entire town.

The trial began in February, with 'limited' flights allowing customers within a 7.5-mile radius of Amazon's site to receive certain items by drone.

According to Vice President David Carbon, Amazon is expecting approval from the Civil Aviation Authority 'very soon', paving the way for expansion across the UK.

The service currently offers same-day delivery in Darlington, with eligible customers able to receive their items within two hours. The package must weigh less than 5lb and fit inside a large shoebox.
