Amazon Slips Despite Gas Price Discounts for Prime Members
Amazon's stock price took a slight dip on Monday despite the e-commerce giant announcing new gas price discounts for its Prime members. The company said that Prime members can save 10 cents per gallon when they fill up at participating BP, Amoco, and other locations.
The offer is available at over 7,500 locations and will be further sweetened in October. Starting on October 2, 2026, Prime members can save 20 cents per gallon every Friday through January 29, 2027. This could provide significant savings for consumers who need to travel during the holiday season.
To take advantage of the discounts, Amazon's Prime members will have to sign up for BP's earnify rewards program. The program offers a 5-cent discount on gas, which is increased to 10 cents when linked with an Amazon Prime membership. An additional 10-cent discount applies on Fridays during the promotion period.
The move comes as gas prices continue to rise due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. According to AAA, the current national average price for Regular gas is $4.4768, a 9.46% increase from last month's national average of $4.0898 and a 42.89% increase from the same period last year.
