Amazon Slumps Amid AWS Infrastructure Failure
Amazon's stock price slipped by approximately 1.5% to $249.65 on Tuesday as investors reacted to an infrastructure failure within Amazon Web Services (AWS). The disruption occurred in the Bahrain cloud region and one damaged availability zone in the United Arab Emirates, which was caused by destruction from the Iran war exceeding the regional architecture's design limits.
AWS acknowledged that it is unable to restore services in these areas and has indicated that another update on the status of the Bahrain region will be provided in early 2027. The company also expects restoration progress for the affected UAE zone within the coming months.
The incident highlights the importance of geographic redundancy, which is a core concept behind AWS infrastructure design. While most customers shifted their workloads to other availability zones before another zone went offline, resources that were not moved remain unavailable.
