Amazon Stock Nears $4 Trillion Mark Amid Accelerated AWS Profit Growth
Amazon's stock price has been holding steady near its record territory after reaching a market value above $3 trillion on Monday. The e-commerce giant's shares traded at $278.90, down 1.80%, but still maintaining nearby support near $276.50.
The company's AWS profit growth has accelerated, contributing to Amazon's position as one of the world's largest public companies. With a 20% annual increase in revenue, Amazon reported net sales of $200.6 billion for the second quarter. Its operating income rose 43% to $27.5 billion, compared to $19.2 billion last year.
AWS recorded $42.2 billion in sales after delivering 37% annual growth, with its operating income increasing about 63%. This has strengthened AWS's role within Amazon's earnings structure. The segment generated about $0.39 in operating income per dollar of sales, compared to the remaining businesses' $0.07.
Amazon plans to spend around $220 billion on capital expenditures, up from its earlier projection of $200 billion, as it expands data centers and computing infrastructure to meet rising cloud demand. Despite heavy spending reducing Amazon's cash generation, the company continues to direct capital toward capacity expansion and long-term growth.
