Amazon Stock Plunges Below $250 Amid Infrastructure Concerns

Amazon's stock price has taken a hit, falling below $250 from its previous high of $287. This decline raises concerns about the company's ability to sustain its aggressive expansion amid rising infrastructure costs and regulatory pressures.

The company's largest growth engine, AWS, continues to perform well, with revenue jumping 37% year over year to $42.2 billion in the latest quarter. However, this strong growth has created higher expectations for Amazon, making it increasingly difficult for investors to ignore the scale of its spending.

Amazon is expanding its use of NVIDIA hardware and developing proprietary Trainium processors, which gives AWS additional flexibility in meeting computing demand. Nevertheless, both strategies require significant investment, with Amazon committing enormous amounts of capital to advanced computing infrastructure.

The disruption to AWS services in Bahrain due to damage from the U.S.-Iran war highlights an often-overlooked risk of Amazon's massive infrastructure footprint: the greater the capacity it builds across strategic regions, the greater the operational and financial consequences when facilities are disrupted.
