Amazon Stock Shaken After AWS Reports Irretrievable Data Loss in Bahrain
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has reported that it cannot recover customer data and resources hosted in its Bahrain cloud region due to damage caused by Iranian drone strikes six months ago. The incident has put Amazon's stock under scrutiny, with shares being closely watched after the update. AWS said that the impact extended across multiple availability zones, which are separate groups of data centers within the same region.
The company stated that the scale of the damage exceeded its regional infrastructure resiliency measures. In a separate update, AWS also reported that it is unable to restore data and resources hosted exclusively in one affected availability zone in the United Arab Emirates. The provider said replacement infrastructure is being deployed, with additional updates expected in the coming months.
AWS added that customers affected by the outages have largely shifted their workloads to other regions and relied on backups where available. The company remains committed to supporting its customers in Bahrain over the long term and expects to provide another update early next year.
