Amazon Stock Soars on AI-Powered Smart Glasses for Delivery Workforce
Amazon's stock price jumped approximately 2% on Monday after the e-commerce giant announced an expanded initiative to deploy AI-powered smart glasses for its delivery workforce. The company plans to distribute around 5,000 units this year, with a goal of exceeding 20,000 devices by the end of 2027.
The wearable technology uses real-time navigation, shipment details, and safety notifications, displayed directly in drivers' line of sight. This enhances efficiency and reduces distractions during deliveries. Over 500 delivery personnel have field-tested the innovation across more than 275,000 package drops.
Amazon is investing an additional $1.9 billion in its Delivery Service Partner initiative throughout 2027, with a portion of this investment aimed at increasing driver compensation. The company projects that national average earnings will rise by approximately $1 to approach $24 per hour.
