Amazon Stock Soars to New Heights on Strong Cloud Growth
Amazon's stock has reached a new all-time high of over $287, representing an increase of nearly 19% for the year. The company's market capitalization now stands at approximately $3 trillion.
The strong growth is largely attributed to Amazon's cloud platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), which achieved its fastest growth rate in 18 quarters with a 37% increase. AWS generates the best margins for the business and contributed significantly to Amazon's operating income of $27.5 billion in the most recent quarter.
The company's investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and chips businesses are also paying off, with CEO Andy Jassy stating that both sectors have exceeded run rates of over $25 billion.
Despite the impressive growth, Amazon's stock valuation is still reasonable at a price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple of 22, which is lower than the average P/E multiple of 24 for stocks on the S&P 500. However, it's worth noting that Amazon's earnings were inflated due to investments in AI company Anthropic.
Long-term investors may still find Amazon an attractive stock to buy and hold, given its significant growth opportunities and potential benefits from AI advancements.
