Amazon Stock Surges Nearly Sixfold in a Decade
Amazon's stock has delivered impressive gains over the past decade, rising nearly sixfold. An investment of $10,000 in Amazon shares ten years ago would now be worth over $59,300, as of October 2, 2026. The company's growth has been fueled by its dominance in online shopping, digital advertising, and its cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services.
The e-commerce giant reported $201 billion in net sales in the second quarter of 2026, a figure that is 560% higher than in the same quarter a decade earlier. Revenue growth has been a key driver of the company's stock performance. Amazon holds more than 40% of the U.S. e-commerce market and has seen its digital advertising revenue increase by 26% year over year, reaching $19.8 billion in Q2 2026.
While Amazon's past performance has been remarkable, investors should not expect a repeat of the 493% gain in the coming decade. However, the stock remains a valuable holding due to the company's continued innovation and expansion into new markets.
