Amazon Surges on AWS Growth, Adding $400B to Market Cap
Amazon's stock surged 15.18 percent to close at EUR 235.65, adding roughly $400 billion to its market capitalization in a single trading day.
This significant move signals a fundamental repricing of how investors view the business, with the shares now just 1.01 percent shy of their 52-week high of EUR 238.05.
The catalyst for this growth was Amazon Web Services' quarterly report, which beat expectations across nearly every segment and showed AWS's revenue growing 37 percent year over year to $42.2 billion, the fastest pace in 18 quarters and the fifth consecutive period of accelerating momentum.
More telling for the long-term valuation is the backlog, which swelled to $496 billion, up from $364 billion in the prior quarter, with $132 billion added in the last three months alone.
