Amazon Taps Investors for $8 Billion Nvidia Chip Offload
Amazon has been holding talks with investors to gauge interest in its plan to offload around $8 billion of advanced Nvidia chips, according to a report by the Financial Times. The company is looking to strengthen its balance sheet through this deal and adopt a more asset-light approach.
The proposed vehicle would be created to hold the thousands of Grace Hopper Blackwell chips installed in US data centres across five states, including Nevada and Virginia.
Amazon plans to lease these advanced AI chips back from the special-purpose vehicle (SPV), which would tap outside investors through debt issuance. The cloud giant could offer an equity stake of up to 10% in the vehicle, the FT reported.
