Amazon Unveils Ambitious Investments at UN General Assembly

At the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Amazon's Vice President is meeting with world leaders to discuss key areas of investment for the company. These include satellite connectivity, responsible AI, and sustainability. Amazon Leo, a subsidiary focused on satellite internet, has deployed nearly 400 satellites in low Earth orbit since April 2025.

The satellites will provide fast and reliable internet for everyday use, including video calls, telehealth, remote work, and online learning. This effort aims to reach underserved communities that traditional infrastructure cannot affordably access. Amazon Leo has signed agreements with major companies such as Delta Air Lines and AT&T to extend its service.

In addition to satellite connectivity, Amazon is also investing in responsible AI development. The company's approach focuses on building AI tools that are responsible, inclusive, and designed to augment human potential, not replace it. This includes features like content filtering, automated reasoning checks, and data protections. Amazon has launched new capabilities for agentic workflows, allowing organizations to define clear boundaries for AI agent actions.

Amazon's data centers are seven times more water-efficient than the industry average, using air cooling for most of the year and water only during the hottest days. The company is committed to being net-zero carbon by 2040 under its Climate Pledge.
