Amazon's Stock Price Stuck as Market Waits for Catalyst
Amazon's stock price has been stuck in neutral since August's all-time high near $287, currently trading at $250.80 and barely 0.42% off yesterday's close.
The company just dropped its best quarter in years, with Q2 2026 net sales reaching $200.6 billion for the first time in a single quarter, up 20% year over year, and operating income surged 43% to $27.5 billion.
AWS grew 36.7% year over year, its fastest clip in 18 quarters, pushing its annualized revenue run rate to $169 billion, while the AI business alone crossed a $25 billion annualized run rate at triple-digit growth.
The advertising business also grew 26% year over year in Q2, but Amazon's forward earnings story is a balancing act between massive revenue growth and equally massive spending, with capex expected to reach roughly $200 billion this year.
