An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 burst a tire while taxiing at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on August 21, just hours after landing from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The incident is the third of its kind in three days at the airport.

Passengers reported hearing a loud bang and feeling potential vibration as the tire burst, but fortunately, it occurred while the plane was taxiing, not during landing, so it did not interfere with direction control.

The aircraft, 14.9 years old and bearing registration N876NN, is configured to carry 172 passengers across two classes and had just arrived from Phoenix at 10:19 PM, 19 minutes behind its scheduled arrival time of 10:00 PM.
