American Airlines Ditches First Class on 777-300ER, Boosts Premium Capacity

American Airlines has started retrofitting its Boeing 777-300ER fleet under 'Project Olympus,' aiming to have all 20 aircraft updated by the end of 2027. The changes include an increased capacity in premium cabins, with the Flagship Business class now featuring 70 suites instead of 52, and a total of 330 seats.

The airline is eliminating its international first-class product, which had eight seats, to make way for more space-efficient seating arrangements. This move will also result in an increase in the number of premium economy seats from 28 to 44 and main cabin extra seats from 28 to 30.

The updated layout will feature the Collins Aerospace Aspire seat in economy, with increased screen sizes and Thales Avant systems with Bluetooth capability. The Viasat inflight WiFi system has also been installed, replacing the Panasonic system previously used.
