Amex Boosts Marriott Points for Supermarket Spending
American Express is rolling out a limited-time offer for select Marriott credit cardholders, allowing them to earn 4 extra Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent at U.S. supermarkets. The promotion, which caps at 5,000 bonus points, is set to expire on January 31, 2027. To qualify, purchases must be made in-store or online at eligible supermarket locations. The offer is exclusively for enrolled Marriott credit cardholders and does not require any additional registration beyond enrollment.
Cardholders can accumulate up to 5,000 bonus points by spending $1,250 at qualifying U.S. supermarkets. Eligible purchases are limited to standalone grocery stores, excluding gas stations, gift cards, pharmacies, and non-grocery vendors within supermarkets. This bonus is in addition to the standard rewards earned through Marriott credit cards, such as the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® card, which already offers 4X points at supermarkets, making the combined rate 8X during the promotion.
The offer is particularly beneficial for travelers looking to boost their Marriott point balance without altering their spending habits. It can be especially useful for those aiming to achieve elite status or redeem points for free nights. However, missing the January 31, 2027 deadline will result in the forfeiture of the bonus, and the 5,000-point cap limits the total upside regardless of higher spending.
