American Express is rolling out a new promotion for its Business Gold card, offering 40,000 Membership Rewards points and a £100 Selfridges gift card to new applicants. The catch? Cardholders must spend £6,000 within three months of approval to unlock the bonus. The offer is set to expire on January 12, 2027.
The points earned can be transferred at a 1:1 rate to airline programs like Avios and Virgin Points, effectively turning the bonus into 40,000 miles. After the first year, the card carries an annual fee of £195, though the first year is free.
The promotion is targeted at directors of limited companies and members of limited liability partnerships, excluding sole traders. Applicants need a UK business bank account, a permanent UK home address, and a personal income of at least £20,000. Those who held an Amex Business Gold or Business Platinum card in the past 24 months are ineligible.
The offer’s value hinges on meeting the spending threshold. Missing the three-month window forfeits the rewards, and the annual fee after the first year could impact whether the points and voucher justify keeping the card long-term.
