AmEx Surpasses 190 Million Merchant Locations Worldwide
American Express has made significant strides in expanding its global reach, with its credit cards now accepted at over 190 million merchant locations worldwide. This growth represents a major milestone for the company, as it seeks to close the gap with rival card networks Visa and Mastercard.
The acceptance of AmEx cards outside the US has more than doubled over the past four years, driven by efforts to strengthen relationships with global payment platforms and licensed partners. According to Anna Marrs, group president, global merchant and network services at AmEx, the company's focus on increasing acceptance in popular travel destinations and events has been key to this growth.
The expansion of AmEx's global reach is expected to drive spending among younger customers, who have become an increasingly important part of its user base. As Marrs noted, 'We continue to see opportunities all over the world.'
