Biotechnology major Amgen is expanding its presence in Telangana by setting up a research and innovation centre at Genome Valley. The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government, further strengthening its foothold in the region.

The proposed research centre will create new employment opportunities for local talent, according to IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu. He urged Amgen to give priority to youth from Telangana during recruitment.

Amgen already has a large global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad with around 3,000 employees, which the minister cited as an example of the growing confidence of leading pharmaceutical companies in Telangana. The state's skilled workforce, world-class infrastructure, and established ecosystem make it an attractive destination for global life sciences companies.

Amgen operates in nearly 100 countries and develops treatments for serious health conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, bone health disorders, inflammation, respiratory diseases, and rare diseases.
