Amgen Hit with Data Breach as Hackers Steal Patient Info
Pharmaceutical company Amgen has disclosed a data breach that compromised patient information. Hackers stole company data and sensitive health information from cloud storage systems run by third-party providers. According to Amgen, it was on July 29 that the company determined the incident was material due to the number of files affected and the possibility that the information in those files could be sensitive.
The breach has prompted Amgen to activate its cybersecurity response plan, put containment measures in place, and bring in independent forensic experts to investigate. This is a significant development for Amgen and its patients, as patient health information is highly sensitive and must be protected under regulations such as HIPAA.
