Amgen Sued Over Data Breach Exposing Customer Health Info
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Amgen, a prescription drug giant, over a data breach in July. The suit claims that the company failed to protect its customers' personal information from cybercriminals.
According to the complaint, a group of hackers accessed Amgen's computer systems and stole data including names, addresses, billing information, health conditions, diagnoses, and other sensitive health-related information.
The lead plaintiff, Heidi Humphreys, is seeking damages, restitution, and disgorgement on behalf of herself and potentially over 100 other customers whose data was compromised in the breach.
Humphreys claims that Amgen's failure to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures was foreseeable and likely to result in a data breach. She also notes that stolen identity credentials can be sold on the dark web for as little as $40, with bank details selling for up to $200.
