Amgen has released Phase 3 VESALIUS-CV data showing that Repatha, its PCSK9 inhibitor, reduced the risk of death by 20% in more than 12,000 high-risk adults without prior cardiovascular events. The trial found lower cardiovascular mortality and fewer heart attacks when Repatha was added to existing LDL-C, lowering therapy.

The results support the potential use of Repatha for broader cardiovascular risk reduction beyond patients with previous heart events, according to Amgen. In the trial, participants who took Repatha achieved a median LDL-C level of 45 mg/dL compared to 109 mg/dL in the comparison group.

The VESALIUS-CV study adds further clinical data on the impact of Repatha on cardiovascular outcomes, expanding on earlier results that showed a 25% relative reduction in 3-point major adverse cardiovascular events and a 19% reduction in 4-point major adverse cardiovascular events.
