Android President: iPhone Duo's Foldable Entry Will Boost Market Interest

Google's Android president Sameer Samat says Apple's iPhone Duo is 'better late than never' to the foldable phone party. Android devices, including Samsung's Galaxy Fold series, have been leading the way in foldable technology for years.

Samat praised the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which he uses daily, saying it helps him get a lot of work done and is an amazing device. He believes Apple's entry into the foldable market will only increase interest in this category overall.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple will gain about 25% of the market share in the first year and grow to 40% by the end of 2027. Samat acknowledges that Apple has a significant advantage when it comes to app support for larger foldable displays.

He notes that many Google apps, including Gmail and YouTube, are fully optimized for foldables, but there is still work to be done in this area.
