Anthropic PBC is deepening its reliance on tech giants Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Amazon.com Inc., and Microsoft Corp. to distribute its artificial intelligence technology, despite the companies being direct competitors. The AI startup has structured deals allowing customers of these cloud providers to access Anthropic’s Claude AI models through their existing accounts. The cloud providers handle billing, take a cut, and pass the remainder to Anthropic.
This business model has become a significant revenue driver for Anthropic. In the first half of 2026, sales through these cloud providers accounted for 48% of the company’s revenue, a sharp increase from just 11% in 2023. The details emerged from Anthropic’s initial public offering filing published on Monday.
The arrangement highlights how Anthropic is leveraging the infrastructure and customer bases of its rivals to scale its operations. While the partnership benefits all parties involved, it also raises questions about dependency and potential conflicts of interest as these companies compete in the broader AI market.
