Apple Cuts 200+ Jobs to Fuel AI-Powered Smart Glasses Ambitions

Apple has announced significant layoffs across multiple divisions, including Siri, Vision Pro, and Intelligent Systems Experience. The move aims to reallocate investment towards AI-enhanced smart glasses projected for a 2027 release.

The Cupertino-based tech giant has eliminated over 200 positions, with approximately 100 coming from the Vision Pro division. This includes gaming and immersive content teams, as Apple discontinues its internal development team due to high production costs. The company will instead transition immersive content creation responsibilities to external production studios.

An additional 100 roles were eliminated from Siri and associated software groups following an AI-focused restructuring. Apple is implementing a fundamentally redesigned technical infrastructure for an AI-enhanced iteration of Siri, necessitating specialized engineering expertise.

The layoffs signal a strategic pivot towards artificial intelligence initiatives and future hardware launches. Analysts maintain a Moderate Buy rating on AAPL with a consensus price target of $336.63, suggesting 9% potential gain.
