Apple Hands Over Reins to Hardware Boss Amid Product Dominance
Apple's CEO transition is underway, with Tim Cook stepping down and John Ternus taking over as hardware boss. The move was announced after Apple's quarterly results showed that products delivered $78.68 billion, or 71.9%, of the company's revenue in the latest quarter. This dominance of product sales over services, which contributed 28.1% to revenue, is a key factor behind Cook's decision to hand over the reins.
Despite concerns about the transition, Apple's stock remains strong, trading at $316.51 and only down around 1% from its previous price. The GF Value estimate puts the stock at $284.21, which means it's currently 11.36% above this level. This stability should give Ternus some breathing room as he takes over.
Cook will retain his role as executive chairman, where he'll focus on government engagement and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. Ternus joins the board of directors, while Arthur Levinson becomes lead independent director. The move is seen as a smooth transition, with Cook giving Ternus enough space to lead.
