Apple Regains Top Spot as World's Most Valuable Company
Apple's shares have pushed its market capitalization to over $4.9 trillion, reclaiming its position as the world's most valuable company by market cap.
This marks a significant shift from last year when Apple lost its top spot to Microsoft and Nvidia, who surpassed it in May and June 2025 respectively.
One reason for this rotation is that investors are turning away from AI-focused companies with high capital expenditures, such as Alphabet, Amazon, and Nvidia, due to concerns about their long-term commitments and risks.
Apple, on the other hand, has remained relatively asset-light with $11 billion in capital expenditures over the past 12 months, compared to $200 billion for Microsoft and Alphabet this year.
The company's ability to deliver strong earnings without taking on significant capital risk could make its premium valuation appear cheaper than it does.
Catalysts driving Apple's earnings higher include potential price hikes on the iPhone, a revamp of Siri that requires newer hardware, and the popularity of Mac products among AI enthusiasts.
